Another sign the singularity is Real

so according to this new york times article, companies are beginning to competitively battle over 3d television. These tvs will be marketed toward the moderately wealthy super nerd at first, but almost everyone seems to expect this to evolve into a full on three dimensional porno viewing experience shared by everyone. It will be quite interesting to see if 3d in television. It could also revolutionize video gaming to the point of realistic 3d virtual reality. All that seems to be clear for sure is that the world is going to continue in a perdictable pattern. The poor will fall behind and the rich will just keep getting nerdier.

Time Travel/Wacky theories by brilliant scientists

According to this article, the worlds most powerful super collider is supposed to go back online after it broke down a year ago. This machine, the "Large Hadron Collider, is designed to simulate the conditions of the extremely early universe, like the first 1/1,000,00 of a second or whatever. Some skeptical scientists, however, believe that the particle they are attempting to create, the boson, is so messed up that it will distort time in a way that prevents its own creation. In other words the scientists have a theory that the machine will always get fucked before it can be used to create a boson.

If this is true, time travel exists. I guess.

The article covers a lot about caloric restriction increasing the lifespans of mice...ie old news, but it more importantly discuss simulating this effect, and the desire and optimism of some scientists concerning the question for ridiculous longevity.

Favorite quote "“My rule of thumb is to ignore the evolutionary biologists — they’re constantly telling you what you can’t think,” Gary Ruvkun of the Massachusetts General Hospital remarked this June after making an unusual discovery about longevity."
